Signing of the Participated Document of Intent for the establishment of the Sassi Observatory as a tool for the implementation of the Management Plan of the UNESCO Site of Matera, December 2019
The UNESCO Chair has among the specific objectives included in the agreement with UNESCO, precisely that of contributing to the launch of the Observatory of the Management Plan of the UNESCO site of Matera, and to this end is already carrying out several actions and research related to the Design of the Observatory itself, and is developing some research themes in relation to the knowledge and management of the site. The UNESCO Chair is also doing actions to raise awareness of the establishment of the Sassi Observatory. On the 14th of December in Matera, within the event “Community of Knowledge and paradigm of sustainability” ERT 2019, organized by the UNESCO Chair together with other subjects, was publicly presented the Participated Document of Intent that aims to create a wide sharing for the establishment of the Sassi Observatory. A large number of public and private subjects were invited to sign the Document, in order to create a path of comparison and proposals, as protagonists and active subjects in the processes of recognition and enhancement of the cultural identity of the context in which they operate. The UNESCO Chair, the DiCEM department and the entire University of Lucania are committed to playing a key role in relation to the mapping of knowledge on the Sassi heritage and the coordinated planning of research on the same. The adherence to this first step will allow the subscribers to contribute to the pursuit of the common interest for the protection and enhancement of the cultural heritage of Matera and its universal value.
